Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot has spoken of his pride in the start made by his promoted side.

After 10 games they visit Rennes tomorrow seventh in the top division only seven points behind unbeaten leaders Paris St Germain.

"It would be very difficult not to be satisfied,'' said Caillot on the club's website. "We knew we had quality, but there were still questions about the players adapting.

"There is a positive dynamic and the 15 points have not been stolen - quite the contrary.

"There are many reasons to be proud. The important thing was not the individual value, but the collective involvement. It is one of the reasons for our success.

"There is also this extraordinary enthusiasm in the city. This goes well beyond football - you can really feel people behind their team and it's gorgeous.

"We know that there will be more difficult times, but we dream a little at this time.''

Rennes are currently 12th on the table, their 2-0 defeat at St Etienne last Friday following three straight wins.

Frederic Antonetti's side bounced back from that on Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over Ligue 2 strugglers Arles-Avignon to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup and have high hopes of making further progress after being drawn at home to lowly Troyes.

Antonetti has praised Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun for his performances since joining from Aston Villa on a loan deal for the season.

"He is an experienced player and it is such a big help for a young team like ours,'' he said.
