Evian captain Olivier Sorlin insists the need for points is their motivation for tomorrow's visit of relegation rivals Brest and not revenge for their agonising defeat to the same opponents earlier this season.

Evian looked the more likely winner during the August meeting between the two but were left empty-handed after going down to Paul Baysse's stoppage-time strike.

However, that match is water under the bridge for Sorlin, whose only thoughts now are trying to aid his side's fight to avoid the drop.

"No (we're not after revenge). So much has happened since that match. We're focused on the upcoming games and we've got a big January. We need to take points at home,'' he said on his club's website.

Tomorrow's clash is the start of the second half of the Ligue 1 season and as things stand Evian would escape relegation, lying 17th and three points above the relegation zone.

Sorlin is not sure that matching the 19-point haul they got from the first half of the campaign would definitely save them though, adding: "At the halfway point we aren't going down, but I don't know if it will be enough to take 19 points in the second half.

"We have a series of games against direct rivals and we need to do everything we can to ensure we leave them behind. The other matches against the stronger teams are a bonus.''

Evian survived a huge scare in last weekend's Coupe de France ninth round when they needed a last-gasp equaliser and then a penalty shoot-out to get past fourth-tier Amiens.

It was a similar story for Brest, who also trailed to lower-league opponents Lucon in their cup clash before equalising and then winning through on penalties.

Brest are currently 14th in the Ligue 1 standings, two points better off than Evian.
