Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff admits his side's habit of conceding late goals has cost them dear as they head into Saturday's Ligue 1 clash with struggling Brest.

Gourcuff's side were beaten by a 75th minute Ronald Zubar goal at home to Ajaccio last week, and conceded an 80th minute equaliser to Valenciennes in their previous game.

Those lost points have effectively ended Lorient's hopes of pushing for a Europa League place as they go into this weekend in 10th place, eight points off fourth-placed Saint Etienne.

Gourcuff said: "We are stronger defensively at the moment but we are constantly on edge. Overall we have conceded too many late chances to our opponents in the recent weeks.''

Lorient go into the game with more defensive problems with both Mareque Lucas and Arnaud Le Lan ruled out, and their natural left-sided replacement Maxime Barthelme facing a late fitness test.

Meanwhile opponents Brest go into the game having been sucked into a relegation battle after their 1-0 defeat at home to Toulouse last week.

The result left Landry Chauvin's men with just one win from their last four and saw them sink to 15th place, two points and two places ahead of third-bottom Sochaux.

To make matters worse for Chauvin's men they will be without captain Ahmed Kantari against Lorient, after he picked up an ankle injury during the loss to Toulouse.
