While Wesley Sneijder continues to mull over a permanent switch to Galatasaray, his Inter Milan team-mates are preparing for a revenge mission at Roma tomorrow night.
Sneijder has been locked in talks with the Turkish giants since Inter accepted a 10million euro bid, but the Dutch playmaker remains on the Nerazzurri's books for the time being.
Roma handed Inter a 3-1 defeat on their curtain raiser at the San Siro and former Giallorossi defender Cristian Chivu is eager to make amends on his return to the Italian capital.
He said: "Anything can happen in Sunday's game and we go to Rome to win, because it is essential.
"They are a team in good shape that play well, but we want to get as high up the table as possible.''
Chivu would prefer to see Sneijder stay with Inter and he has strong memories of the 28-year-old's dynamic performances in the treble winning season of 2009-10.
He added: "When I was playing for Roma all I ever read was about Sneijder.
"Wesley has the right to say yes or no and no one can take that away from him. I hope it finishes in the best possible way for him because he is a player that Inter need desperately.''
Inter are now seven points adrift of league leaders Juventus having picked up just four points from their last four games, but Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin feels the side are good enough to hold down a top-three place.
He told Gazzetta.it: "We have to win to climb back up the league table. The thing that counts is finishing in the top three and qualifying for the Champions League.
"Juventus aren't the only team who can win the title, the league is really tight and every game is very difficult.
"It will be difficult against Roma, they're a good team who play good football. We are in good form and confident in ourselves, that's the most important thing.''
Dejan Stankovic, Joel Obi, Luca Castellazzi, Yuto Nagatomo, Ricky Alvarez and Walter Samuel are just a few senior players on the treatment table, however, with Diego Milito, Antonio Cassano and Philippe Coutinho all facing late fitness tests.
Roma, meanwhile, should revert to their preferred 4-3-3 formation, after a raft of injuries forced head coach Zdenek Zeman to switch to a 3-4-3 for a midweek Coppa Italia victory at Fiorentina.
Mattia Destro fired the Giallorossi into the semi-finals and Zeman paid tribute to the young Italy international, saying: "Destro is an important player.
"He has quality and is a young and upcoming player. He had other chances, so I hope he will open up and score more goals.''
Erik Lamela and Francesco Totti will need late fitness tests, with Michael Bradley, Miralem Pjanic and Federico Balzaretti all struggling to be ready.
