Portsmouth enter into exclusivity talks with ex-Disney chief over takeover

Portsmouth have confirmed that they have entered into an exclusivity agreement with former Walt Disney chairman Michael D. Eisner over talks regarding a possible takeover.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Eisner is keen to buy the club, with Portsmouth moving to assure supporters that they have "a robust plan in place" regarding a sale.

The League Two side announced on Thursday that they will be talking exclusively to Eisner and his Tornante Group over a potential purchase.

A Portsmouth statement read: "Portsmouth Community Football Club would like to advise all shareholders and supporters that it has entered into an exclusivity agreement with Michael D. Eisner and his Tornante Group to allow for a period of discussions and negotiations to take place regarding a possible purchase of the club.

"The agreement is simply to ensure that during this period, which will be 70 days, the club will not engage in discussions with any other potential bidder and is standard practice in these situations."

The statement added: "We can assure all fans that in the background we will now discreetly and privately engage in this next stage of discussions, while our focus will remain on supporting the football staff and players until the end of the season."

Portsmouth, who were in the Premier League until 2010, became a fan-owned club after twice falling into administration. They currently sit third in League Two.
