Portland Timbers boss Caleb Porter 'isn't going anywhere' - Paulson

Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson said that manager Caleb Porter "isn't going anywhere," ruling him out as a candidate for the vacant LA Galaxy managerial position.

The Galaxy job opened up last week when Bruce Arena departed to take the reins of the U.S. men's national team. On Monday, Galaxy president Chris Klein said that the club would interview candidates who are currently MLS coaches, and would ask teams for permission to speak with those coaches.

A Goal.com article also listed Porter as a possible replacement for Arena, as Klein and Porter were teammates when they played at Indiana University.

"I am surprised by the question as there is no coaching job in MLS bigger than the Timbers," Paulson told The Oregonian. "Caleb is happy here and we are happy with him. He isn't going anywhere."

Porter just completed his fourth season with the Timbers, and while he led Portland to the MLS Cup title in 2015, the team failed to make the playoffs in 2016.

Overall, his record with Portland in 146 league and playoff matches is 58-41-47.

Prior to managing the Timbers, Porter served as head coach of the men's program at the University of Akron. Porter's record there was 119-18-17, while leading the Zips to a national championship in 2010.
