This talented midfielder has overcome a fractured leg in March to take up his place in this USA World Cup squad and, now that he is back to full fitness, the next challenge has to be making his mark in South Africa. Born in Scotland, Holden's family moved to America when he was ten years old and his attacking midfield skills were first noted when he impressed in college soccer and he earned the chance to play at English side Sunderland. Sadly, his spell in the North East of England was destroyed by an attack at a nightclub that left him with a variety of injuries, including a fractured eye socket. He opted to return to America with Houston Dynamo in 2006 until a second chance came his way to prove his worth in England with Premier League side Bolton last January, where the leg injury that threatened his place in this World Cup has stunted his progress.
