Starting his career at Bristol Rovers, Sinclair made just two league appearances before being signed by Premier League side Chelsea in the summer of 2005.

The lightening-fast winger never managed to make an impression at Chelsea under a succession of managers, farmed out on loan to Plymouth, Queens Park Rangers, Charlton, Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Wigan during his five years on the Blues' books.

There was the danger that Sinclair would fail to live up to his promise as a teenager when Chelsea sold him to Championship side Swansea City in 2010, but those doubts were quickly removed by a sensational debut season for Welsh club as he fired them into the Premier League.

Sinclair scored 22 league goals, plus another five in cup competitions, in that 2010-11 season, with the pinnacle coming in the play-off final at Wembley as he scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Reading.

He netted eight goals in Swansea's first season in the top-flight, leading to a call-up to Great Britain's squad for the London 2012 Olympics and he scored in a 3-1 win over United Arab Emirates at Wembley.

His form for Swansea led to interest from champions Manchester City, with the player making it clear he wanted to move to Roberto Mancini's team and would not renew his contract. He scored in Swansea's opening day win at former club QPR before a move to City for around £8 million was completed.

Strengths: As quick as a whippet and brilliant at outstripping an opponent, Sinclair in the archetypal wide forward who will look cut inside, get round the back and either force the keeper work or deliver into the danger area.

Weaknesses: While he may get amongst the goals, he does not provide anywhere near enough assists as you might imagine and his crossing is often wayward. Decision making is also not the strongest.

Career high: Scoring a hat-trick in the 2011 play-off final to fire Swansea City into the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Career low: Failing to prove his worth under several managers at Chelsea and being sent out on loan each time.

Style: Fast, athletic, direct, focused.

Quotes: "I have progressed and I'm 23 now, with a lot of experience, and I aim to show that and kick on by improving off all the world-class players here at City." Scott Sinclair, September 2012.

Trivia: Rumour has it that Sinclair was desperate to sign for Manchester City because his girlfriend, Helen Flanagan - or Coronation Street's Rosie Webster - wanted to move close to her home.
