Thomas Meunier ready for Paris Saint-Germain battle with Dani Alves

Thomas Meunier has said he is ready for the challenge of battling for a place in the Paris Saint-Germain starting XI with Dani Alves.

Meunier, 25, arrived at PSG last summer and has made a name for himself at the Parc des Princes, stepping in for Serge Aurier at right-back and moving ahead of him in coach Unai Emery's plans late in the campaign.

Although Aurier is expected to leave, the arrival of three-time Champions League winner Alves means competition remains high.

Meunier, currently recovering from an ankle operation, told Goal: "He's a great player -- we know his qualities. He showed that with Juventus, especially in the Champions League, despite his age.

"It's always pejorative to say 'old players' because Ryan Giggs and the like played until they were 41.

"Competition for places will be as it is with Serge. It'll be really good competition for places and the best will play.

"I'm going to continue improving. I don't think that I start with an advantage over him, so I'm going to have to work. I have nothing to lose."
