Marquinhos: Marco Verratti and I are key to Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has told SporTV that he and Marco Verratti are seen as fundamental elements of the club's "project."

Marquinhos is in talks over a contract extension and said he was happy at the Parc des Princes despite being linked with a move away.

"The club's project is very ambitious," he said. "PSG are not a selling club and, along with Marco, I am part of the project's base.

"After that, things depend on the [contract] negotiations because these issues are never simple. However, I think I will stay."

Brazil international Marquinhos added that he believed Santos midfielder Thiago Maia, linked with Lille, would be a good signing for PSG.

"If I was one of the club's directors, I would take him without hesitation," he added. "He is a player with many qualities and a bright future ahead of him. He would be perfect for the PSG project."

Meanwhile, Verratti's agent Donato Di Campli has denied that Barcelona have made an offer for the Italy international.

"There is nothing new," he told PremiumSport. "We have not spoken about this topic, there is no offer.

"We have only talked about Marco, PSG and the relations between the different parties."

Asked whether a move could be on the horizon, he said: "For the moment, the club is completely closed to that. We will speak with them again and then see what can be done."
