PSG 'ready' for key Marseille clash in Ligue 1 race - Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery says that the French champions are well prepared for Sunday's trip to Marseille in Le Classique.

PSG need to beat their bitter rivals in order to remain within touching distance of Ligue 1 leaders AS Monaco but will have to do so without the aid of travelling support.

Speaking at Camp des Loges in his prematch news conference, Emery said he was confident his players are primed to perform at Stade Velodrome and return home with all three points this weekend.

"We know what this match represents," he said. "The supporters came yesterday because they cannot come with us to Marseille, we know just how important it is for them.

"We are happy they came to see us and I think my players are used to playing matches like this one. It will not be easy but my players are ready."

Although Emery understands the significance of the fixture and the fact PSG need a win as they are chasing top spot in Le Championnat, the Basque tactician does not feel the result will necessarily prove decisive in the title race.

"We are preparing for the match to pick up the three points and play well," Emery added. "It is clear the league is difficult. We need to improve, take points and climb the table. It is an important match. We have to play well and do our best because a big club like PSG has to put in a great performance in Le Classique."

Emery got his first taste of Le Classique when PSG were held to a 0-0 draw by Marseille at Parc des Princes earlier this season but the former Sevilla manager revealed that he regularly watched the fixture while in Spain.

"You should see the atmosphere in the stadiums -- the grounds are full in Paris and Marseille, it is great," Emery said. "They are great games to play; Le Classique is something fantastic.

"I have seen a lot of them in recent seasons and they are always incredible matches to see, played with a lot of intensity and determination. It is an important match for the two teams. It is just as important as the big derbies in other countries."

In squad news, the 45-year-old confirmed Thiago Motta will miss the trip south but revealed Angel Di Maria and Marco Verratti are both fit.

"Thiago trained with us but he is not 100 percent," he said. "He will continue to work with the fitness staff. Angel feels good and Marco trained with us. We spoke with the doctors and he is available. We are going to select 19 players for the trip."
