Paul Dalglish leaves positions as coach and GM of Ottawa Fury

USL side Ottawa Fury FC has announced that GM and head coach Paul Dalglish has resigned his positions and will be replaced on an interim basis by Julian de Guzman.

Fury FC president John Pugh said that Dalglish intended to leave after the end of the season for personal reasons, but the club and Dalglish decided jointly that it would be better for the team to make the switch now.

"This decision will give Julian the opportunity to get the rest of the season under his belt," said Pugh via a club release.

Since retiring as a player in 2008, Dalglish has held a variety of coaching positions, including spells as an assistant with the Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake, as well as managerial stints with FC Tampa Bay and the Austin Aztex.

The son of Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish, Paul Dalglish's playing career saw him bounce around a variety of English, Scottish, and American clubs, including spells with Newcastle United, Norwich City, and Wigan Athletic. He was part of Houston's MLS Cup-winning sides in 2006 and 2007.

De Guzman spent most of his playing career overseas, including spells with FC Saarbrucken, Hannover 96, and La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna.

He returned to his native Canada in 2009 when joined Toronto FC and later played for FC Dallas. He ended his playing career with the Fury in 2016. He joined the Fury's coaching staff in 2017.

At international level, De Guzman made 89 appearances for Canada, scoring four goals.
