John Sheridan sacked as manager of Notts County

John Sheridan has been sacked as manager of Notts County, the League Two club have announced.

Sheridan departs with immediate effect after a run of nine successive league defeats left the Magpies just one place and one point above the relegation zone.

The 52-year-old was appointed in the summer but won only six of his 24 league games. His last match in charge was a 4-0 defeat at Cambridge on Monday.

A short statement on the club's official website read: "Notts County FC can confirm that John Sheridan is to leave his position as manager with immediate effect. The club will be making no further statement at this time."

Sheridan admitted last month his job could be under threat and now Notts County are looking for their 11th full-time manager since winning the League Two title in May 2010.

The Magpies are set to be taken over by local businessman Alan Hardy after current owner Ray Trew agreed to sell the club in December.

Their next match is away at Morecambe, who are three places and five points above them in the table, on Saturday.
