Akwa United's Alhassan joins Austria Vienna

Akwa United midfielder Ibrahim Alhassan has joined FK Austria Vienna on a loan deal until the end of the season with an option to purchase.

Alhassan's move was confirmed by the club on their official site on Friday although there has been no word from the Nigerian club.

"I am delighted to be part of Austria from now on. I cannot wait to get to know the team and work hard together to make even more success with it," Alhassan said in a statement.

Austria Vienna Sport Director Franz Wohlfahrt added: "Ibrahim Alhassan Abdullahi is a player with great potential. He is a team player who has speed and good ball handling. We are convinced that this transfer is one with great potential."

Signed by Akwa United from Wikki Tourists last November, Alhassan, who has represented Nigeria at under-20 level, earned his first call up to the senior national team in June, but did not feature, although Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr was impressed by his talent.

Alhassan did turn out for the local-based Nigerian team this month, as they topped Benin over two legs to qualify for the African Nations Championship tournament to be held in Kenya next year.
