Nigerian Football Federation implements transfer matching system

Nigeria has become the first African country to implement the FIFA TMS Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS).

The DTMS online platform, which includes league access, will allow the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) to manage its international and domestic transfers via one system.

It is modelled on the International Transfer Matching System (ITMS), which is provided to 211 managers' associations and 6,500 clubs around the world, for the cross-border transfer of players.

The system will provide the NFF and its clubs throughout Nigeria with the ability to manage national and international transfers on one platform, generate transfer activity reports and have greater monitoring levels to enhance transparency and governance.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick was delighted at the development and told ESPN FC: "One of our key objectives as a federation was to change the way things are done to show more transparency, especially in player transfers.

"This is the result of years of work and we are happy that it is now reality."

The NFF's adhesion to the system was facilitated by the custodians of the NPFL, the League Management Company (LMC).

LMC chairman Shehu Dikko said this was one sign of the body's forward-thinking aspirations

"We want our domestic league to be at the cutting edge of advances in world football, and we are proud to be the first African country to implement the DTMS -- this will finally put an end to transfer disputes in our league," he said.

"Our objective is to continue to lead the way so as to position our NPFL as one of the best on the continent."

Additional federations from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are expected to implement the DTMS later this year.

FIFA TMS developed the DTMS system in response to demand from member associations and clubs for a domestic transfer system based on the ITMS.
