Serie A club Cagliari have announced the sacking of manager Massimo Ficcadenti just ten matches into the season.

Ficcadenti's departure comes as something as a shock with the club tenth in the Serie A table and the Italian having only taken over at Stadio Sant'Elia in the summer.

However, Cagliari saw fit to dispose of Ficcadenti following a 1-0 loss to Atalanta at the weekend, with reports already suggesting he could be succeeded by ex-Rossoblu boss Davide Ballardini.

"Massimo Ficcadenti is no longer the coach of Cagliari. The decision was taken today (Tuesday)," a statement on the club's website read. "He has left the club along with his assistant managers.

"Cagliari FC would like to thank Massimo Ficcadenti and his staff for the work carried out with commitment and professionalism."

Italian coaches' association president Renzo Ulivieri told Sky TV: "Italian football is overheated, there's less and less patience. A manager needs time and often that's not allowed."
