Assou-Ekotto: Modric saga no problem
Modric, 35, has been the subject of interest from Chelsea all summer and has stated that he would like to move to Stamford Bridge.
But Spurs have thus far rejected the Blues' advances and unless a deal is done by Wednesday, the Croatia playmaker will be staying at White Hart Lane until at least January.
However, Assou-Ekotto says that Modric's desire to leave the club has not caused any problems in the Tottenham dressing-room and even admitted that he understands with his team-mate's position.
"The mood in the camp is good and there is no problem with Luka," Assou-Ekotto told skysports.com . "We can all understand that Luka would be interested in a move to Chelsea as they are in the Champions League and we are not.
"We hope Luka stays as he is such a big player and we need him if we want to get back into the Champions League, but if he leaves we would all wish him well. It would be a major boost if Luka stayed and he says he is happy to stay if the move does not happen
"He has been back in training and he has not caused any trouble because he is a very good professional."
Tottenham play Manchester City on Sunday looking for their first win of the season, following Monday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, with Harry Redknapp including Modric in his starting line-up.
