In a remarkable 90 minutes that see-sawed one way and then the other, the visitors took a first minute lead through Barry Douglas and continued to dominate the opening exchanges, but Francisco Sandaza's controversial penalty brought Saints back into the match in the 34th minute and Liam Craig's drive and then a second from former United striker Sandaza gave the home side three goals in 12 minutes and a two-goal advantage at the interval.

The Perth men looked comfortable as time wore on but United then ensured a stirring climax with two goals in just four minutes to rescue a point. Substitute Gary Mackay-Steven gave the Tangerines hope in the 79th minute and defender Gunning completed the sensational turn around with a header eight minutes from time.

Michael Higdon netted a double as Motherwell returned to the top of the table with an impressive 4-2 win which ended Dunfermline's unbeaten start to the season.

The visitors completely outplayed Dunfermline during a first half in which Higdon and Jamie Murphy, via a deflection, both netted. Chris Humphrey added a third before the Pars finally made a game of it in the final quarter after substitute David Graham's shot deflected in off team-mate Joe Cardle.

Cardle gave the hosts the unlikely prospect of salvaging a point as he netted a deflected goal on the break in the final stages but Higdon grabbed his second within a minute.

Graeme Shinnie's late goal against Kilmarnock lifted Inverness off the bottom of the table as they won 2-1.

The full-back's low strike in the 89th minute secured the points at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, giving Inverness their first victory of the campaign. The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute when Gregory Tade powered home a close-range header before Dean Shiels levelled with a 25-yard curling shot nine minutes later.
