Tevez has made no secret of his desire to leave Eastlands, with Corinthians and Inter Milan both showing interest during the summer, but neither club was able to complete a deal for the 27-year-old. Mancini believes Tevez has now committed himself to staying at the Etihad Stadium for at least another year.

"His family is here now. Now that his family is here I think that he can stay," Mancini said. "I think this is a good moment for this club. Carlos is one of the best players that we have."

Mancini believes the recent signings of Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri, and the ambition that such acquisitions show, may have played a part in persuading Tevez that he would be foolish to leave City at this point.

Mancini believes City can now challenge for the title, although Tevez might have to wait before he is ready to return to the starting lineup.

"I think so," he said. "He is not fit - he has only worked for two weeks - but I think with the good players that arrive in this team, after we won the FA Cup last year, they can try to think next year we can win the title. I think Carlos can play also next year."

The problem now for Mancini is how he incorporates the new signings in a first team that already contains many stellar names. However, despite having developed a reputation for being overly-cautious during his time in England, Mancini hinted that he would have no problem putting them all out on the pitch at the same time in a very attacking formation.

"I think we can play with Nasri, [David] Silva, Aguero, [Mario] Balotelli, Tevez and [Edin] Dzeko all in the same game!" he said.
