Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be allowed on the touchline for Wednesday's Champions League play-off second leg against Udinese after UEFA agreed to defer a two-match ban pending the outcome of an appeal.

European football's governing body issued the two-match ban against Wenger after he was found guilty of breaching the terms of an earlier ban during the first leg of their tie against Udinese last week and fined Arsenal €10,000 (£8,743).

UEFA decided Wenger had passed messages to the dug-out, although the Frenchman claimed UEFA had told him he was permitted to relay instructions to assistant manager Pat Rice through first-team coach Boro Primorac, who was in telephone contact with the Arsenal bench.

Arsenal immediately indicated their intention to appeal, but for the purposes of speed then decided to initially seek a delay to the ban before contesting it fully.UEFA have agreed to the request, granting Wenger some respite after a difficult few weeks.
