Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has claimed he is "close" to signing for AC Milan.

Aquilani's future has been the subject of conjecture this summer, amid uncertainty over whether he will remain at Anfield or instead leave the club for a return to Italy.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Juventus where he impressed, making 33 Serie A appearances for the club. And Aquilani, who joined Liverpool from Roma for £20 million in 2009, has told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I am close to joining Milan."
