Aberdeen won the battle of the SPL's basement teams, beating Inverness 2-1 at Pittodrie.
The Dons had failed to score in each of the first four matches of the season, but two first-half goals set the Dons on their way, both quality shots into the bottom left corner from first Robert Milson and then the highly-prized Scott Vernon.
Richie Foran scored for the Highland side with 11 minutes left but it wasn't enough to stop Craig Brown's side from winning a league match for the first time this season.
Paul Burns scored the winner with five minutes left as Dunfermline won 1-0 at Dundee United and moved into the giddy heights of third place, at least until Sunday.
Burns' goal came from a strike from the edge of the box after Willo Flood's corner had been partly cleared. The result leaves Dundee United with just one win from five matches.
St Mirren continued their solid early season form by fighting back to beat Hibernian at Easter Road 2-1.
Garry O'Connor, back in Edinburgh after spells in Moscow, Birmingham and Barnsley, gave Hibs the lead on 25 minutes before former Cardiff striker Steven Thompson and then, confusingly, Steven Thomson scored for St Mirren.
The win takes the Buddies up to fourth spot with eight points from five matches.
