Trezeguet, 33, left Hercules following their relegation and has been training with Monaco. The World Cup and European Championship winner, who scored 34 goals in 71 appearances for his country, is keen to return to play in Ligue 1 for family reasons.

He told L'Equipe: ''I made a point with my family about my situation. The conclusion is that it may be time for me to return. Today I want to return to France.''

The former Monaco and Juventus striker revealed the next club he joins would have to provide him with a worthwhile challenge, saying: ''What is important is to find a club that really matters to me.''
