David Moyes has backed young striker Victor Anichebe to be a key player for Everton this season.
With Louis Saha's contribution hampered by injury and Yakubu's days at Goodison Park appearing to be numbered, Anichebe could yet be the solution to Everton's striking options.
"Victor has got great potential," said Moyes. ''A lot of people in the USA seeing him for the first time will have said 'wow, what a player.' We know all about him. He is a very good player. He has had a few injuries, but if he can get rid of those injuries then he has attributes which you cannot buy.
"He has great strength, great pace, power, athleticism. And he took his goal really well. He has had a bit of a sore back, which is why he didn't play (against Philadelphia Union) on Wednesday, but we wanted to give him some minutes on the pitch here."
Doubts remain over Jermaine Beckford's ability to play in the Premier League, while potential target Jay Bothroyd has joined QPR, leaving Moyes short of attacking options ahead of the new season.
