Sanchez, 22, is known for his quick feet and multiple stopovers, in the same vein as the Portuguese midfielder but maintained that, after completing his long-awaited €26 million (rising to €37.5 million) move from Udinese, he wants to be known as his own man.

"Am I going to be the Ronaldo of Barcelona? No, I just want to be Alexis Sanchez of Barcelona," he told AS. "I am proud to play in the best club in the world.

"Now I have to show my worth. Barcelona are a great team and want to win everything. I am very happy and now I have to prove the ability I have shown so far."

Sanchez also revealed his excitement at playing alongside Argentina's Lionel Messi, whom he described as the best player on the planet.

"First I have to integrate myself within the group and adapt. I am proud to play with Messi, who is the best player in the world," Sanchez added. "I never thought that a Chilean would play for Barcelona."
