Lyon are waiting to see if Yoann Gourcuff will require an operation to cure the ankle problem that has hindered his pre-season campaign.
Gourcuff, 25, was sent home early from Lyon's training camp in Austria to be treated for a problem with his left ankle. He returned on Tuesday, but has continued to suffer with the issue and may now need surgery that could see him miss the start of the Ligue 1 season.
"I think I have a little piece of bone that is floating around the joint and has damaged the cartilage," he said. "At the moment there is no way I can play a game."
New Lyon coach Remi Garde said he was hopeful, but that a decision has to be made soon.
"We are still hopeful that the first course of treatment will prove effective, but clearly we have to make a concrete decision one way or the other soon,'' he said. ''Yoann is not 100% at the moment, neither technically nor physically.''
