• Italian interest in Gera
• Gera turns down new contract

Gera will be a free agent when his contract with Fulham expires at the end of the week. He spent four years at the Hawthorns before making the move to Craven Cottage in the summer of 2008.

Albion have held talks with the Hungarian international but there is also interest from an unnamed Serie A club.

Gera's agent, Vladan Filipovic, said: "The negotiations are in a period where we can agree anytime (with a club). It can happen that Gera's future will be decided next day - or we could close the negotiations next week. But it's not a secret that we are at the finish.''

Current Albion head coach, Roy Hodgson, signed Gera when in charge of Fulham.

He was a favourite with Baggies fans and has received a warm welcome whenever returning with Fulham.

West Brom are still waiting to see whether Lazio will follow up their interest in defender Gabriel Tamas with a firm offer.

Meanwhile, Hodgson is confident Youssouf Mulumbu will remain at the Hawthorns and played down fears that Mulumbu could be tempted away from Albion because of the interest shown in him by Italian club Fiorentina.

Mulumbu was one of Albion's outstanding performers last season and also weighed in with seven goals to make him their second-highest scorer after Peter Odemwingie.

Albion report back for pre-season training on Monday with Hodgson optimistic that Mulumbu will be part of his plans for next season. He said: "Youssouf Mulumbu has a long contract that has to be respected - and he has given no indication that he plans to break that commitment.

"Talk of a transfer is just fantasy at the moment. It will be difficult for anyone to take him. Mulumbu will not go, at least not for another year.''
