Criscito, 24, will meet up with his new team-mates on July 8, Zenit confirmed on their website.

Criscito had also reportedly attracted the attention of Paris St Germain and a host of Italian clubs including both Inter and AC Milan.

Criscito made his debut for Genoa in Serie B in 2003 and had a brief spell with Juventus from 2007 before returning to Genoa, initially on loan.

He has made 100 Serie A appearances and scored five goals, and won 15 caps for Italy including all three of the Azzurri's group games at last summer's World Cup in South Africa.

Zenit, the Russian champions, are coached by former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti.
