Tottenham winger Steven Pienaar will undergo surgery following South Africa's clash with Egypt on Sunday.

The midfielder made a mid-season move to White Hart Lane from Everton, but made only limited impact as Tottenham's season went awry in the second half of the campaign.

Pienaar has revealed that he has been carrying groin and thigh problems for some time and will go under the knife next week.

"The injury has been giving me lots of problems over the last few months," Pienaar said. "I've decided to go for the operation after the international."
