Valencia are determined to keep hold of Spain forward Juan Mata despite renewed interest from Manchester City.

Having already lost David Silva to the big-spending Premier League club, Valencia president Manuel Llorente is desperate for Mata not to follow suit.

"The kid is un-negotiable because he is a key man in our project," Llorente told Provincias.

Mata, who was strongly linked to Barcelona last summer, is said to be attracting a great deal of attention from both Manchester clubs.

However, the 22-year-old's father and agent, who is also named Juan, told Sky Sports: "I have not had any contact with City."

Mata has scored five goals and assisted nine others this season, to help fire Valencia up to third in La Liga, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The former Real Madrid youngster might yet have to be sold service the massive debt at the Mestalla. In the summer, Silva was sold for €27 million along with star striker David Villa, who joined Barcelona in a €40 million deal, in order to pay off some of the club's reported €550 million debt.
