West Ham manager Avram Grant believes Fabio Capello would be foolish to overlook Carlton Cole for a place in the England team.

• Terry to return as captain?

Cole has not featured for England this season after struggling for form and fitness, but with five goals in his last six games, Grant believes Capello should be thinking about recalling the former Chelsea striker for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales in Cardiff on March 26.

Having scored just one goal in 18 games at the beginning of the season, Grant believes Cole fully deserves his current purple patch and praised the striker's strength of character for working hard in training in a bid to get back to top form.

"I think he can start thinking about England again. When he is in good form, he can be good for England," Grant said. When he was not in good shape, he applied himself. He did much more than he did before. Some players, when they are not in a good situation, they have their head down and train less but he has done very well.

"He trained harder than he had ever trained before when he wasn't in form, he was more serious than he has been in any aspect before, and also he showed that even when you are not in a good time then you can improve yourself if you do the right thing. He has shown that by scoring a lot of goals."
