Blackpool captain Charlie Adam has strenuously denied that his January transfer request was motivated by the prospect of earning more money away from Bloomfield Road.

Adam, 25, was courted by Liverpool throughout the recent transfer window and he asked to leave Blackpool when the Tangerines persisted in rejecting the advances from Anfield.

Tottenham also missed out on the Scotland midfielder with a last-ditch bid, but Adam insists that when he leaves Blackpool, his departure will be driven by ambition and not a desire to line his pockets.

"Maybe the jump in money would have been enormous but if you're a real footballer, you are here to play football," Adam said. "For me, it's all about playing football and playing at massive clubs.

"I don't worry about moving to a bigger club and not getting a game. If these big clubs want to sign you then they want you to play.

"Deadline day was a bit crazy but it's gone and focus is on Blackpool now. You never know what's going to happen in the summer."

Blackpool now appear certain to cash in on the influential playmaker in the summer, with Liverpool and Spurs likely to revive their interest, along with Aston Villa.
