Salgado, 35, joined Rovers on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 and has impressed in making 45 appearances for the Premier League side.

He joins fellow defender Ryan Nelsen in signing a new deal at Ewood Park, and the club still hope to convince Chris Samba to do likewise, despite the captain recently professing a desire to leave.

Rovers boss Steve Kean told the club's official website: "To keep Michel here is great news, his experience is invaluable and his enthusiasm infectious. He's a winner and you can never have too many of those.
