Kevin Muscat's A-League career appears to be over after the controversial Melbourne Victory defender received an eight week suspension on Thursday night.
Muscat had been widely criticised for an ugly two-legged tackle on Melbourne Heart player Adrian Zahra on the weekend and the A-League Disciplinary Committee responded in kind with a suspension that rules him out of the rest of the competition this season.
Muscat can still play in Asian Champions League matches but the suspension, which includes a match already served, runs right up to the A-League grand final, should his side even make it.
It is thought that the 37-year-old will now retire.
The tackle ended Zahra's season.
