Independiente have won the competition seven times in their history, but have not picked up the trophy since 1984 and are appearing for the first time since 2004.

Midfielder Nicolas Cabrera claims his side are targeting a big win in the first leg, as they will struggle at altitude when the teams meet in the return leg.

"It is the first important match of the year and we are hopeful of scoring a lot of goals here because then we'll have to play in high altitude," he told FIFA.com. "We want to demonstrate on the field why we won the Copa Sudamericana. We want to win all the championships we are playing in this year."

The first stage of the Copa Libertadores sees 12 teams battling to advance to the group stage, which begins next month. Independiente or Deportivo Quito will join Group Eight, to face Uruguayan side Penarol, Ecuador's LDU Quito and Godoy Cruz of Argentina.
