Central Coast Mariners strengthened their bid for a top-two finish in the A-League with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Perth Glory at nib Stadium.
The visitors took the lead after 22 minutes when Daniel McBreen scored from a corner and the Mariners added a second just one minute later with the unmarked Matt Simon slotting home.
Glory keeper Tando Velaphi prevented the Mariners from going further ahead in the 26th minute when he saved a Simon penalty, minutes before Jamie Harnwell was sent off for an elbow on Simon.
Perth pulled a goal back just before the break through Todd Howarth but the Mariners then defended well to hold on to their slender advantage.
The Mariners are second in the standings, three points clear of Adelaide United.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Heart moved back up to sixth following a 1-1 draw with Gold Coast United at AAMI Park.
Alex Terra headed home the opener in the 17th minute for his second goal in as many games but Bruce Djite equalised five minutes before the break with a low drive beyond the reach of keeper Clint Bolton.
Heart edge into the play-off places ahead of Newcastle although the Jets have two games in hand.
