Marseille caught cold by Evian in Coupe

January 10, 2011

Ligue 1 champions Marseille suffered a Coupe de France humiliation as they were beaten 3-1 by Evian Thonon Gaillard in the ninth round.

The Ligue 2 side stunned their illustrious visitors by taking a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes through Cedric Barbosa and Yannick Sagbo.

Cedric Cambon's own goal just before the hour mark made for a tense final third of the match, but Kevin Berigaud netted with four minutes to go to settle Evian`s nerves.

Nancy narrowly avoided embarrassment as they progressed on penalties after letting a two-goal lead slip at amateur side Aurillac.

Goals from Julien Feret and Andre Luiz put the Ligue 1 side in control before the break, but Kamel Larbi struck after 50 and 65 minutes to take the game into extra time.

The additional period could not separate the sides, but Nancy prevailed 4-3 on penalties to move into the last 32.

Rennes hammered Cannes 7-0, with two apiece for Alexander Tettey and Victor Hugo Montano, as well as goals from Yann M'Vila, Abdoul Camara and Yacine Brahimi.

Johan Martial scored in the ninth minute of extra time as Brest won 1-0 at amateur side Issy-les-Moulineaux.
