Kenwright: We need new owner to compete
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is one of the last remaining chairman-fans in the Premier League but believes only a new super-rich new owner can take his club to the highest level.
Kenwright has seen a monopoly of wealthy owners dominate Premier League football in recent seasons and he knows that the only solution for Everton is to sell the club to ensure its future.
In an emotional statement to ESPNsoccernet, the highly respected and much loved Everton chairman confessed: "Am I the last one left? Look at the top Premier League clubs and they all seem to be owned by multi-millionaires.
"The game has now become all about money. Money is the solution, I wish it wasn't but it is. It is no secret that I have been searching for an investor for some time, that Everton needs another backer, a big backer.
"We are looking for someone to take over the shareholding and buy the club. We need, though, a proper investor.
"This is a well run club with a manageable debt and with a tremendous first-team squad. We shouldn't be bottom of the league, that's for sure. We thought this might be our season, as it happens. We kept all our best players and bought in four more squad players at very little cost.
"But the reality is that if you want to hit the top four you have to raise your level to buy even better players, and we need one of those wealthy owners to do it."
Everton could turn out to be a bargain for a wealthy overseas investor but Kenwright would want the club to pass into the hands of someone with the interests of the club at heart.
