Lafferty hits treble for Gers
Kyle Lafferty helped himself to a hat-trick as Rangers hammered Dunfermline 7-2 to reach the fourth round of the CIS Cup on Tuesday.
Walter Smith's men looked in danger of an embarrassing result when their visitors pegged them back to 3-2 at the start of the second half, but that became a distant memory by the full-time whistle as Ibrox was treated to a buffet of goals.
Nikica Jelavic started things off on 21 minutes, and Lafferty doubled the lead three minutes later. By half time it was 3-1 as Madjid Bougherra got in on the act before Calum Woods nodded home for Dunfermline.
There was temporary anxiety when Joe Cardle made it 3-2 a minute into the second period, but Lafferty responded immediately, before further goals from Jelavic, Lafferty and Steven Naismith killed the game.
There was even greater drama at the Falkirk Stadium, where Scottish Division One side Falkirk beat Hearts 4-3. Mark Stewart grabbed a last-minute winner for the home side.
It was Stewart, on as a third-minute substitute for the injured Tom McManus, who opened the scoring, before Carl Finnigan made it 2-0 for Falkirk. However, Kevin Kyle and Suso Santana levelled matters, before Kyle gave Hearts an unlikely lead.
Falkirk were not done though, equalising through Ryan Flynn, and they capitalised on the late dismissal of Craig Thomson due to violent conduct with Stewart's late winner.
Elsewhere, Jody Morris, Marcus Haber and Chris Millar scored in a six-minute period as St Johnstone beat Queen of the South 3-0, and Motherwell breezed past Brechin City 2-0 thanks to goals from Jonathan Page.
