Benitez, who left Liverpool to join Inter Milan in the summer, spent the last two years of his tenure fighting with American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett and eventually escaped to Italy after six seasons at the Premier League club.

"The last year at Liverpool I had directors who knew nothing about football and you couldn't talk about football with them," Benitez told the Italian press.

Asked about his relationship with Inter president Massimo Moratti, Benitez said: "It's good. He is a man who knows football. He might get angry when the team doesn't win and this is normal, but at least you can talk about football with him."

Benitez, whose Inter side are joint top of Serie A and host Bari on Wednesday, took over from Treble-winning hero Jose Mourinho, who joined Real Madrid in May 2010.
