The Arsenal captain limped out of the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday after clearly pulling up with a leg injury. It was initially feared that a strain could rule the midfielder out for a month and manager Arsene Wenger was far from optimistic about the situation when asked to comment on the subject on Sunday.

However, a scan on Monday has revealed no serious damage and Fabregas is positive about being fit for the big London derby on October 3.

"Good news on my injury," Fabregas wrote on his Twitter page. "I have some fluid but nothing bad in the muscle. I hope I can be playing in two weeks."

The Spain international will sit out the Carling Cup tie with Tottenham, in which he would not have been expected to play anyway plus next weekend's match with West Bromwich Albion and the Champions League meeting with Partizan Belgrade.

If he is not passed fit to face Chelsea, his likely comeback would be against Birmingham City on October 16.
