Jose Mourinho believes Real Madrid still need to sign another striker in January, despite their substantial investment in the playing staff this summer.

Real recruited Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Ricardo Carvalho but despite the loss of the club's all-time record goalscorer Raul, opted not to strengthen their attacking options.

That leaves Mourinho short for the first half of the season and it is reported he could consider a move for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor when the transfer window opens in January.

The Real coach has certainly made no secret of his belief that Real's options up front require strengthening.

"With another forward, if Benzema or Higuain get injured, I could look at the bench and see solutions," Mourinho told AS.

"I can't play both of them together because if one gets injured in the fifth minute, I don't have a replacement."
