Fulham winger Duff has withdrawn because of a calf problem picked up during Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw at Blackpool.

Duff, who has 84 senior international caps, will be assessed by his club and could yet join up with the squad for the home clash with Andorra next Tuesday evening.

He joins Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews, who has a groin injury, on the sidelines for the start of the Republic's qualifying campaign.

Keith Treacy was also forced to withdraw from the Armenia game with a groin injury. The Blackburn player returned to his club to receive treatment.

Treacy could return to the Republic squad for the game against Andorra on September 7.
