Werder Bremen have moved quickly to fill the void left by the sale of Mesut Ozil to Real Madrid by signing Brazilian midfielder Wesley from Santos.

Wesley, 23, has signed a four-year contract with the north German side after the two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee.

''We have had to show a lot of patience and have now been rewarded for it,'' said Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs, who revealed that an agreement with the player had been reached several weeks ago, but that a fee could only be agreed upon late on Friday.

''Wesley is a very versatile and dynamic player who can play in every position across the midfield.''

Wesley will arrive in Germany next week to undergo a medical, although he is ineligible for the second leg of their Champions League play-off against Sampdoria next Tuesday. And the new arrival cannot wait to begin life in the Bundesliga.

''It has been a lifelong dream of mine to play at a top club in a very strong league,'' he said to the club's official website.

''I am delighted that things have worked out now with Werder Bremen. I am looking forward to coming to this city and I want to join the team as soon as possible and make the fans happy.''
