Real Madrid have confirmed central defender Ezequiel Garay has dislocated his right kneecap.
The Argentinian is expected to be out for at least eight weeks after an MRI scan clarified the problem, while revealing no further damage was suffered to ligaments or cartilage.
A statement from the club read: "An MRI performed at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital has confirmed that Real Madrid CF's Ezequiel Garay dislocated his right kneecap but without any further damage to adjacent areas.
"The player will begin treatment pending progress and further complementary diagnostic testing if needed.''
Garay suffered the injury in the recent friendly against Bayern Munich.
