Gomes played 41 games in the Champions League for PSV between 2004 and 2008 including a run to the semi-finals in 2005 and is now ready to build on a campaign for Spurs that saw them break into the top four for the first time in the Premier League.

"It's great to be in the Champions League again," Gomes told the club's official site. "I played in it for four years at PSV and I know how good it is, it's amazing to play Champions League with Tottenham now.

"We deserve it. We showed a lot of quality last season, improved a lot and now we'll see how good it is. It's the most important club competition in the world."

Young Boys beat Turkish side Fenerbahce away in the third qualifying round to progress and Gomes knows that his side face a tough test.

"Yes, we have a tough game against Young Boys," he added. "They did really well to beat Fenerbahce. We all hope to get past them, but we know it will be difficult.''
