Maicon has been the subject of a summer-long saga as former Nerazzurri boss Jose Mourinho seeks to take the full back to Real Madrid, but Benitez - who has stressed he does not have control over transfers at the club - has now voiced his opposition to the move.
Asked if he wanted to retain Maicon, he told Mediaset: "Certainly. He is an important player for us and you can tell that on the field.
"Last season, he did great work for the team and he has remarkable attacking qualities. As a coach, I want him in my squad."
