Joe Cole wants Old Trafford move
England international Joe Cole is set to turn down a lucrative deal with Arsenal to join Manchester United, according to reports in the UK press.
Cole was released by Chelsea earlier this month after failing to agree terms on a new six-figure contract and as a free agent will be one of the most high-profile free transfers this summer.
The Sun report that Cole, 28, has told friends that Old Trafford is his favoured destination, despite previous reports that he would prefer to remain in London.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be fan of Cole and the tricky winger's versatility would make him a perfect fit in a midfield that needs freshening up at Old Trafford.
Ferguson allowed Serbian winger Zoran Tosic to join CSKA Moscow last week, fuelling speculation that the Red Devils might be about to swoop for new signing.
Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the England international but manager Harry Redknapp, who worked with Cole at West Ham, thinks it could be too late for his side to land the player.
"I've got a feeling that it might have been done (for Cole to join United)," Redknapp told talkSPORT. "It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Joe's not wanted to speak to anybody and his people have been saying 'let's get the World Cup out of the way first.' But we'd be interested for sure. I like Joe."
