Two set-piece goals from Canadian midfielder Dwayne De Rosario gave Toronto FC their first win of the new Major League Soccer season in a 2-1 victory over 10-man Philadelphia Union.
Playing their first home match, Toronto were given the numerical advantage after 34 minutes when Philadelphia captain Danny Califf was sent off after bringing down Julian De Guzman following a soft back pass to Union goalkeeper Chris Seitz.
It was the second time on the road that MLS newcomers Philadelphia had lost a central defender during the opening half. In Seattle in their inaugural game, Chris Stahl had received two yellow cards as the Union lost 2-0 but Philadelphia had made amends with a 3-2 win last weekend at home to DC United.
In Toronto, though, their defensive problems returned as from the resulting free-kick, De Rosario's low 25-yard drive went through the wall and was spilled by Seitz into the net.
Philadelphia were level on the stroke of half-time as Roger Torres chipped over the top of the Toronto defence for left-back Jordan Harvey to connect with a left-footed shot at the far post.
It took another defensive error from the visitors to deliver the winning goal nine minutes from time as Seitz completed a miserable night by bringing down O'Brian White, De Rosario converting the penalty kick.
