Valdano: Real are not interested in Rooney
Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano insists the club are not interested in taking Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to the Bernabeu, though he did reveal his admiration for highly-rated Racing Santander youngster Sergio Canales.
Rooney has been in scintillating form of late and he had been linked with a big money move to either Real or Barcelona before publicly re-affirming his commitment to United on Monday.
And now it appears even more unlikely that the england striker will be heading out of the Old Trafford exit door, with Valdano adamant the player is not a target for the La Liga club following Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure to Hamburg.
Valdano told Radio COPE: "He is extraordinary, very, very good. Rooney is English - we all know they find it difficult to adapt to another type of competition other than the Premier League. He is a very interesting player but we have not ever been interested.''
Real also appear to be on the brink of securing Racing Santander teenager Sergio Canales. The striker has been linked with a number of clubs, including both Manchester outfits, Liverpool and Arsenal, but he seems set for the Bernabeu.
While the transfer has not been confirmed, Valdano was happy to talk about the 18-year-old, saying: "He is very talented, he has technical capability, imagination, mental coolness - which is something unusual to see in such young players.''
